AJ Michalka Remembers Making 'Core Memories' With 'Down-to-Earth' Miley Cyrus During Their Disney Channel Days
AJ Michalka has only the fondest memories of hanging out with Miley Cyrus back in the day.
The singer, 33, and her sister, Aly Michalka, bonded with the Hannah Montana alum, 32, when they opened for her on the Best of Both Worlds Tour in 2006 and while they were all working for Disney Channel.
"Me, Aly and Miley had this whole moment on set where we were able to interview each other and talk about these new premieres and we were all giddy and young and excited. That's a core memory with her that's just really adorable," AJ explained in a recent interview. "I remember one Halloween, she came over and carved pumpkins with us at our house, and we did a pumpkin carving contest with a bunch of friends."
Numerous years and a whirlwind rise to fame later, the "Slow Dancing" vocalist said Miley hasn't changed. "She's a very down-to-earth, cool person through and through. Exactly what you think you're going to get, you're going to get, which is what I love about her," AJ added.
While the trio was out on the road, they got the chance to collaborate together. "We had a great run with each other. I mean, we could have toured for months together. We really gelled on and off-stage. Our moms were friends. Our senses of humor were very similar. And we got to sing a Kiss song with her, 'Rock and Roll All Nite,' every night," the Cow Bells alum spilled.
AJ recently channeled her inner Miley while performing "Wrecking Ball" during Season 12 of The Masked Singer. "I was going to reach out to Miley the night of the airing, and I didn't, which is silly, but I haven't seen her in so long," she said. "I had so much fun singing that song. It's so good."
As Morning Honey previously reported, AJ and the Phil of the Future actress, 35, were able to come out of being child actors relatively unscathed. "A lot of people probably looked at us and thought we were crazy, but we said no to a lot of things," Aly said. "I'm sure that affected our trajectory as artists, but I think at the end of the day, we were able to experience success, but also not an overwhelming amount where we couldn't be humans. We just got really lucky. We had each other."
"Most child actors don't have a sibling also experiencing the same success at the same time," the Easy A actress explained. "That gave us a lot of normalcy."
