Alyah Chanelle Scott Is 'Really Proud' of Reneé Rapp for Making the 'Big Decision' to Leave 'SLOCG'
Alyah Chanelle Scott could not be happier for Reneé Rapp's next chapter.
The S-- Lives of College Girls actress, 27, and her costar, 24, became extremely close while filming the hit Max series over the years. In Season 3, Rapp's character, Leighton, leaves everything behind to move to Boston — a storyline which similarly reflects the pop star's exit from the show.
“We talk all the time, so there's really no surprises there,” Scott said about the news of Rapp's departure. “I felt really proud of her for making a big decision for herself. I was curious what it would mean for the show, but the transition was very natural and easy. There was definitely a shift. That’s my b----. I love her.”
When the Texas native, who plays Whitney in the series, and the Mean Girls alum filmed their final scene together, it was heart-wrenching, to say the least. "I say goodbye to her in real-time in that scene, which was very emotional and cathartic," Scott explained.
Although Rapp may not be on set with her anymore, Scott emphasized their love for each other isn't going anywhere — especially after the blonde beauty penned the song "I Do" — with lyrics depicting an unrequited crush on a friend — about the Reboot actress.
"It’s on par for us. We're obsessed with each other in the sweetest ways," she said. “We have this energy and connection that obviously the song is about, but it can't fully encompass the complexities of what a real friendship is. I feel very honored that she was inspired by our situation to write that song. But I also think it's about so much more than that.”
In July 2023, Rapp announced her time on the coming-of-age series was over. “College girls moved me out to L.A. and introduced me to some of my favorite people. Two and a half years later — it’s given me y’all and this community,” she wrote in a social media post.
"Thank u Mindy [Kaling], Justin [Noble] and everyone at Max for believing in me," she continued. "A lot of queer work gets belittled — but playing Leighton has changed my life. I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her. I hope she gave y’all a little bit of that too. She’s such a tiny part of representation but even the tiny parts count. I wouldn’t be half the person I am without her and y’all. I love that b---- more than you know. I’m so excited for this season and I can’t wait for you to see what we have coming for her and the girls."
