Amy Adams Reveals Why She Didn't Wear Makeup in Her Personal Life for 'Years'
Amy Adams is used to getting all glammed up — unless her daughter has something to say about it.
The American Hustle actress, 50, revealed her kiddo, Aviana, 14, previously asked her not to wear makeup when she wasn't working.
"She didn't like me wearing makeup," Adams explained in a recent interview about her teenager, whom she shares with her husband, Darren Le Gallo, 50.
"She's like, 'I just want you to look like Mom, not like Amy Adams.' And I was like, 'You got it.' So there were years where I didn't wear makeup wherever we went," she admitted. "I mean, I sneaked some mascara. But yeah, I wouldn't wear makeup because she wanted me to be just mom."
Now, her mini-me wants the Enchanted actress to be a little more put-together. "I’m usually the least manicured at my household,” Adams said. "But lately, per my daughter’s request, I’m working on an upgrade. She’s like, ‘You can’t wear workout clothes if you’re not working out, mom. 'You can’t just do the leisure part of athleisure.'"
"I will help my daughter get ready. My husband will get ready," Adams revealed about their family dynamic. "I will be helping her, I run around or I braid her hair. And I'm always the last person to get ready.... usually [on my end] there's a ponytail involved, maybe a hat, and I think it's been that way since she was born."
While the Arrival actress may be used to going natural, she's also done her best to embrace the aging process. "It gets so much better! But there are things I miss: my joints working, collagen, things like that," she joked in an interview earlier this year.
"I learn so much from the young women that I work with,” she added of her costars. “I feel like I learn more from them than they could ever learn from me. I do forget that I’m not their age sometimes. I’m like, ‘Amy, you’re 50. You’re not going to hang!’”
Adams also picked up some wisdom along the way from parenting her daughter. "Something I've learned, I think I learned it the minute [Aviana] was born, not to be overly personal, that I had this idea of who she was going to be and what her essence was. The journey since the moment she was born is finding out who she is, who she wants to be," the actress said in a 2022 interview. "Not even what I want for her, because of course I want the best for her, but she wants things for herself."
