Anne Hathaway Says She's 'Way More Comfortable in My 40s Than I Was in My 20s': 'I Felt This Pressure'
Anne Hathaway feels better than ever in her fourth decade of life.
"I certainly am way more comfortable in my skin in my 40s than I was in my 20s. I felt lost in my 20s," the actress, 41, told Entertainment Tonight in a new interview. "I felt this pressure to have it all figured out and I thought that because I didn't know everything about myself, I was somehow doing something wrong."
She added, "But it turns out, that's what your life's for. When I started out, when I first became a mom, people were like, 'Oh, how are you going to balance it?' and I'm just like, 'Balance? What are you talking about?' One, as much as I love my career, as much as I love what I do, and you know I'm a beast about it, there's no contest."
The brunette beauty appears in The Idea of You, which premiered on Amazon Prime on May 2, where she plays an older woman dating a famous boy bander who is 16 years her junior.
Hathaway is a mom to sons Jonathan, 8, and Jack, 4, whom she shares with husband Adam Shulman, which only helped her understand her character Solène even more.
“I don't think it's necessary to be a mother to play a mother. I think that should be open to lots of different actors," she told People. "But for me, in terms of understanding the depth of love that you can feel for this person and what you would be willing to do, I felt like it allowed the love for Hayes to be even bigger for Solène because she loves her daughter more than anything."
“I mean, we love our children beyond words and for her to choose her daughter over him, I don't know, it just made their love that much more important," she continued.
Hathaway is proud to be part of the flick, which is based off Robinne Lee's 2017 bestselling novel of the same name.
“I loved the scene where she shows him art. It's beautifully described. I mean, I love this book. I love this book," she gushed.
“And so that one, just kind of seeing ... And getting to do it with Nick who's such a great partner, that was amazing,” she added. “And I have to say the ending.”
