From Festive to Functional: Best Ways to Reuse Holiday Greeting Cards
What do you do with the holiday cards you receive — save them or toss them?
There is a great third option. Repurpose them!
Here are some clever ways to use those colorful cards.
Ornaments
Use a pen to trace around differently shaped templates, cut out the shape, and use ribbon to transform them into tree ornaments that keep the card alive year after year.
Bookmarks
Cut the card into 1-by-4 inch rectangles, punch a small hole at the top, and use some ribbon to make a bookmark you can treasure all year.
Gift Tags
Do the same as for bookmarks, but a little smaller, and write who the gift is for on the white backside. They’ll love it!
Pictures
Pick up a few inexpensive photo frames, cut the card into that size, and you have great framed art.
Place Settings
Cut the card into whatever shape you like and paint or print the guest’s name on the white back to make your next dinner party classy.
Puzzles
Cut the festive card into popsicle stick sizes, glue them to the sticks, and you have a puzzle for young minds and hands.
Wine Bottle Tags
Cut a rectangle from larger cards, then cut a hole large enough to fit over the neck of a wine bottle for a festive gift tag for the vino.
Postcards
Cut the card into the size of a postcard, then use the white back for your message and address.
Decorations
You can use cards to create decorative garlands or bunting. Cut a number of them into chevrons, paint one large letter onto the white back, and attach them with small clips to string for a “Happy New Year” or “Happy Birthday” garland.
