Celebrities Interested in Cryptocurrencies
Celebrities are highly influential people, and it's easy to see how some have impacted cryptocurrency performances and how the public perceives these assets. Kim Kardashian is one of the celebrities who experienced a backlash in 2021 after promoting a crypto asset, failing to disclose that the asset's creators paid her $250,000. There have been similar situations in which influencers endorse investments for profit. However, the fluctuation in crypto performances has revealed the category of these influencers that are more intentional about the industry. Here are seven cryptocurrency investors with a deep interest in these assets and could even pass as hotshot market investors.
Elon Musk
The first on our list is Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Space X. He displayed significant enthusiasm about cryptocurrencies with the famous meme coin Dogecoin (DOGE).
Since 2021, Elon has been a solid promoter of this asset, taking it to the frontline and actively pumping it on social media platforms. He also publicly took stances, advocating for Dogecoin and stating it is an asset with good potential. His influence has positively contributed to some good performances in the Doge network.
The DOGE token increased tremendously between December 2021 and January 2022 after Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla would make merch buyable using the DOGE token. At some point, he also hinted at the possibility of Dogecoin integration in Tesla purchases. In addition to his interest in the meme token, Tesla bought $1.5 billion of bitcoin in 2021.
Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson had been involved in crypto investment before the most recent hype about these assets. Earlier in 2016, the professional boxer sponsored a Bitcoin wallet in collaboration with Bitcoin Direct.
He has also initiated cryptocurrency debates, shared information, and connected with crypto enthusiasts via his social media platforms. In July 2021, he tweeted, "Which do you prefer, BTC or ETH?" This post gathered 24,000 likes and over 1,000 quotes, equating to millions of impressions from Twitter users. There are several other instances of his involvement and interest in these digital assets that cement our belief that he also values cryptocurrencies.
Serena Williams
Serena Williams is known for being one of the most famous tennis players globally, but the crypto community knows her for so much more than that. In 2019, the star player revealed in an Instagram post that she is an investor in the centralized exchange and crypto trading platform Coinbase. She is a venture capitalist who has over 30 investments in multiple companies. Her interest in the crypto market got people talking and shifted some mindsets about the potential of these budding assets.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg's name keeps popping up in several cryptocurrencies and NFT investments. His interest in these investments started manifesting following his purchase of Dogecoin in 2021.
He also invested in several NFTs, such as CryptoPunks, Meebits, BoredApe Yacht Club, and Invisible Friends. The major highlight of his NFT journey was launching a collection inspired by his life memories. Crypto.com created this collection, which was called "A Journey with the Dogg."
Snoop Dogg's love for these digital assets also birthed some partnerships, like the one with the Sandbox, a popular metaverse project with plans to create the "Snoopverse" platform. The Snoopverse is a virtual world within the Sandbox metaverse, with 122 parcels of virtual land. Snoop Dogg-inspired avatars are other exciting assets.
Lionel Messi
In October 2022, Bitget, a leading crypto exchange platform, partnered with Lionel Messi. Following this, Messi has collaborated with key projects in the crypto community. The famous footballer has used his ambassadorship position positively, pushing the crypto narrative to a much wider audience.
In addition, Messi's collaboration with the Planet blockchain has been another significant topic of conversation. He is reportedly a sponsor of the blockchain movement "Planet." This movement began following a video post on his Instagram page, which shows him kicking a can with a label displaying pollution and a billboard revealing the words, "Join The Planet."
That's not all; he is also an ambassador to Sirin Labs, the company developing blockchain-based secure smart devices and all-in-one PCs.
How Celebrities Are Influencing Crypto Investments
The crypto market is a sector heavily influenced by sentiment and news as much as it is affected by economic factors. Therefore, it is not surprising how much famous crypto enthusiasts can impact the performance of an asset. The DOGE token soared over 15% in January 2022 following Elon Musk's news about the possibility of the token being used in buying Tesla merchandise. People buy into assets that have potential, and public validation is sometimes an indication of that. Celebrities sometimes have the power to change people's mindsets, and their influence on the crypto market hasn't gone unnoticed over the years. If appropriately managed and not done to exploit naive investors, such impact could be a significant driver of global digital asset and blockchain adoption.
