Snowboarder Chloe Kim Admits She's 'Jealous' of Fellow Olympian Ilona Maher's 'Moves' on 'DWTS': 'She's Such an Inspiration'
Chloe Kim is extremely proud of her friend Ilona Maher.
After the professional rugby player, 28, wowed audiences on Dancing With the Stars this past season, the snowboarder, 24, commented on how talented her pal is.
“She is on fire and she’s got moves and I am jealous,” Kim gushed over Maher before admitting, "I am so stiff."
The Olympians' friendship is in the early stages, but the two have enjoyed getting to know one another. "Ilona and I actually went on a hot girl jog recently and then got brunch. So that was my first time meeting her,” Kim explained. "I just love her and I love everything that she does, and I think she's such an inspiration."
While the California native has been thrilled for Maher, don't expect her ever to be competing for the Mirrorball Trophy. "I was invited to go on [Dancing With the Stars] a few years ago and I declined," Kim admitted. "Because, well, I can't dance."
However, she did mention that Maher could change her mind. "I think I’ll be seeing her soon, so I’ll pick her brain about it and see,” Kim said. “But from everything she's told me, she seems like she's having the most incredible experience and so she's selling me. I'm into it.”
As Morning Honey previously reported, the Quinnipiac University alum made waves when she appeared on the ABC reality show. "Rugby requires a certain human and a certain sort of personality. For women especially, it's a person who is prepared to break societal norms, in a way, and play a sport that is generally thought of as masculine, manly, and too physical for women," Maher shared. "These are girls who said, 'No, flip that. I am just as strong. I'm just as powerful.'"
"It's just important for these girls to see me constantly out there showing that being big can be beautiful, and it doesn't take away from your femininity in a way," she continued. "Growing up, I had no athletes — except for Serena Williams — who looked like me and played a sport like me. I want to be somebody out there [so girls] don't feel like they need to change."
While the world may know Maher for her rough and tumble moves on the rugby field, she's thrilled to be a role model for others. "I think it'll just show what I've been trying to say, which is female athletes are so much more than their sport, so much more than the stereotypes that they're put in with the sport," she pointed out during a press junket. "It's so awesome to show what my body type can do, and how beautiful it can be in all sorts of spaces."
