Courteney Cox Reveals Where She Thinks Her Iconic 'Friends' Character Monica Gellar Would Be Today
Courteney Cox is looking back at the show that shot her to stardom.
As Friends celebrated its 30th anniversary on September 22, the actress who played the iconic character of Monica Gellar, 60, reflected on where the chef would be in the present day and what the beloved series meant to her.
"Monica is alive and well. Are you kidding?" Cox assured fans during a recent interview about where Gellar would be in 2024.
Despite it being three decades since the NBC sitcom first hit airwaves, the brunette beauty finds it difficult to measure how the years have passed. "It’s just insane to me because it feels like time, it goes so fast and I don’t realize it,” Cox noted of the milestone. "We used to say, ‘Oh, I can’t wait for this month’ or ‘god, it feels like forever.’ I would never say that line anymore."
While the Scream alum admitted she hasn't sat down to view the series "in a little while,” she sometimes “can’t help but watch” if it comes across her television.
"That show is incredible. Every joke holds up, all the characters are just so amazing, and we [had] the best writers in the world,” Cox said. "I’m lucky that it continues on through all the generations. And that’s very fortunate."
The marker may be bittersweet after the shocking death of Matthew Perry, who played Gellar's husband, Chandler Bing, last year.
"I think he’s probably one of the funniest human beings in the world. You know, he’s just so funny," Cox said during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning after Perry's passing. "He is genuinely a huge heart, obviously struggled. I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot, if we believe in that."
The superstar also took to Instagram to pay tribute to her on-screen partner. "I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day. When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites. To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. 🤍🕊️," she penned alongside a clip from the series.
