Demi Lovato Reveals 'Aging' Gives Her 'Anxiety' Because It Takes Her Away From Being 'Present' in the Moment
Demi Lovato is revealing exactly why she's afraid of aging — but it's not for the reason people may think.
The pop star, 32, got extremely candid about why spending time thinking about getting older isn't a productive way of spending her time and how it can completely take her out of the moment.
"Aging is something that, if I think too hard about it, I can get anxiety about — not because I'm worried about how I look or the changes in my body or my face, but because of that existential dread," Lovato said in a recent interview. "I like to stay in the present moment. When we think about things that are in our past or things that are in our future, we're not present, and presence is the biggest gift that we can give ourselves."
The Camp Rock alum has channeled reflecting on her life in a healthy way, making her directorial debut with the Hulu documentary, Child Star, where she chats with her fellow celebrities, including Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa, Kenan Thompson and Raven-Symoné, about what it was like to grow up in the spotlight.
"This was just a story that I had been wanting to tell for quite some time. I've always thought about exploring the history of child stars, and also looking at different points of views and the perspective of what it's like to be a child star in today's day and age," she added.
As Morning Honey previously reported, Lovato has touched on the aging process in the past when she revealed that injectables have made her feel more confident about herself.
"I’ve always believed in making choices that are empowering, [keep you] true to yourself and help you look and feel your best," the "Confident" vocalist said in an interview earlier this year. "I’ve incorporated Xeomin into my routine every three months, and it gives me the results I want while still looking like myself. There are times I like to get glam and times when I don’t like to wear makeup at all, and this gives me the confidence for both."
For the chart-topper, being up front and honest about what she does to feel better is extremely important. "I’m always transparent with my fans, and this is something I wanted to share. It normalizes it and takes the taboo away from injectables," Lovato said about breaking the stigma. "It’s all about what makes you feel like your best self. Don’t listen to naysayers. Do what makes you feel comfortable in your own skin."
