Women inspiring women! Doja Cat and SZA won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2022 Grammys, which aired on Sunday, April 3, and the two couldn't help but gush over working with one another.
"Listen, I have never taken such a fast piss in my whole life," Doja quipped when she got up on stage. "Thank you everybody. I really appreciate it. Thank you to everyone — my family, my team. I wouldn't be here without you, I wouldn't be here without my fans you know what, SZA, you are everything to me. You are incredible. You're the epitome of talent, you're a lyricist, you're everything. I need you to say something."
SZA added, "Thank you to Doja, thank you to my mama, thank you to God, and I'm glad you made it back in time!"
Doja Cat started to get emotional, saying, "Damn. I like to downplay, but this is a big deal. Thank you everybody. Be safe."
The ladies, who got the trophy for their hit bop "Kiss Me More," were up against Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga ("I Get a Kick Out of You"), Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco ("Lonely"), BTS ("Butter") and Coldplay ("Higher Power").
Of course, people loved seeing the stars take home the coveted award. One person wrote, "OMG DESERVEEEED," while another added, "CONGRATULATIONS AHHHHH."
A third person added, "doja and sza I’m so proud of y’all like fr !! @DojaCat @sza DESERVED."
“I feel like me and SZA are similar in the way that we both grew up with spiritual backgrounds, but she was perfect for this song,” Doja Cat said of their collab. “I feel like I say this every time. She was in my heart when I wrote this, and I needed her to be on the hook, and I needed her to put a verse because she brings a depth to everything that she does.”
She continued, “I went in writing the song, thinking it was just going to be about kissing and have silly metaphors for kissing, and things like that, but she took it to a level of ‘I need love. I need to be loved better. I need more love than what you’re giving to me.’ So that kind of vibe I feel like is important.”
