A Wicked New Role! Gal Gadot To Play The Evil Queen In Disney's Live-Action 'Snow White'
Watch out for those poison apples: according to Deadline, Gal Gadot is in "final negotiations" to take on the part of the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White.
The Wonder Woman lead has yet to comment, but the Marc Webb-directed movie, which is slated to begin filming next year, has already signed on West Side Story star Rachel Zegler as the titular character.
Webb — the man behind films like 500 Days of Summer and Spider-Man — has great confidence in 20-year-old Zegler even though she's new to the Hollywood scene.
"Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts," he stated. "Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale."
After the casting news broke, the young star tweeted, "I HAVE MANIFESTED MY ENTIRE LIFE I THINK I THINK."
The original flick, which is based on a story by the Brothers Grimm from the 1800s, debuted in 1937 and marks Disney's first animated movie.
The project is just one of several of Disney's upcoming live-action remakes, with The Little Mermaid set to release in 2023.
The latter stars Halle Bailey as the titular character, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric.
Bailey revealed on July 12 that they had finished shooting, writing on Instagram, "After auditioning for this film when i was 18 just about to turn 19 , to now finishing filming through a pandemic when i turned 21 .. .we have finally made it..."
"I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory ... it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone i’ve ever known, to feeling self doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as i’ve reached the end," the singer-actress continued. "This experience has made me so much stronger than i ever thought i could be. i’m so grateful to have such lovely and talented people in the cast."
"I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears) lol," she added. "Thank you sardinia for a wonderful ending!!! xoxo."
