Gwen Stefani Says Her Fifth Studio Album Will Be 'One Big Statement' About Her Life: 'Each Song Was Handpicked With Meaning'
Gwen Stefani is going back to her roots with her new music.
The No Doubt frontwoman, 54, teased what fans can expect from her fifth studio album, Bouquet, after the cover art suggested her latest body of work would be focused country-focused.
"It’s all the stuff I listened to in the station wagon on the way to church," Stefani clarified of the record, which will be filled with '70s pop-rock tracks. "Yacht rock, though it wasn’t called yacht rock then. The music I listen to now, I wanted this album to reflect that."
The Voice coach also noted that the album will be "one big statement" on the many facets of her life and journey. "That’s why I feel Bouquet is a really perfect title. Like each song was handpicked with meaning," she said.
Stefani released the first single, "Somebody Else's," on Friday, September 20, which seemed to hint at the difference between her past marriage to Gavin Rossdale and her current union with her husband, Blake Shelton.
"I don’t know what a heart like mine was doin’ in a love like that. I don’t know what a woman like me was doing with a man like you / But now I got a love so true," she sings. "Now that I’ve found the real thing / You don’t compare / And I don’t care that you’re somebody else’s / And it doesn’t even break my heart / You’re somebody else’s / And I pray for them whoever they are."
As Morning Honey previously reported, Stefani has come into herself over the past few years. The businesswoman has continued to highlight who she is through her music, but also through her fashion choices.
"This is my creativity and my give-back," the chart-topper, who has her own beauty line GXVE, said in a 2022 interview. "Basically all I did was put makeup on people who wanted samples and free makeup to go out that night. What I loved about it was the feeling people would get from me: when we were done and they looked at themselves and said, 'I had no idea I was this pretty,' or 'I didn’t know I could look like this.' That’s what I do to myself every morning in the mirror. I’m like, 'Oh my God, thank God you’re back!'"
Rolling Stone conducted the interview with Stefani.
