Haaave you met Hilary Duff? The actress announced on Wednesday, April 21, that she would be part of Hulu's upcoming spinoff series How I Met Your Father.
In the new show, Duff will play Sophie, who tells her son the story of how she met his father. Throughout How I Met Your Mother, Ted (played by Josh Radnor) told stories to his kids of ... how he met their mother.
"Where's your suit? Suit up! I am excited about my job, if you can't tell, you guys!" she began via Instagram. "Today is the day — the news came out that I am going to be shooting How I Met Your Father. I'm playing the role of Sophie. I'm really excited to dig in and start finding out who Sophie is going to be and the new on screen family that I am going to have. Super exciting."
She added, "So, really looking forward to being part of the Hulu and 20th Century family and working with the amazing writers and producers that are spearheading this project. I truly feel blessed, and I can't wait. So, I hope you're excited, just like me."
Needless to say, Duff's pals couldn't believe the news. Mandy Moore wrote, "So excited for you and this!!!!" while Molly Bernard added, "YAAAAAAyyyyy SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Cannot wait." Meghan Trainor exclaimed, "THIS IS SO PERFECT."
"I've been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I'm looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie," Duff added of her new venture. "As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I'm honored and even a little nervous that [show creators] Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas] would trust me with the sequel of their baby. [How I Met Your Father creators] Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger] are brilliant, and I can't wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I'm excited to slip my 6 ½'s in there!"
“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of How I Met Your Father,” Bays and Thomas said in a joint statement. “We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. (Thanks to all the HIMYM fans out there who waited for it.)”
It's unclear how the new show will connect to the original — which starred Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan — but one thing is for sure: it will be legen — wait for it — dary.
