Time to Relax! How to Enjoy a Soothing Spa Weekend at Home
The holidays are enough to drive anyone insane and you’ve probably been run ragged.
That’s why it’s time to tell everyone it’s “ME TIME” and treat yourself to a relaxing weekend of self-indulgence for a fraction of the cost of a pricey day spa — safe and sound at home with items you may already have in your cabinet or refrigerator!
■ To get in the mood to spoil yourself, slip into a soft robe, listen to relaxing music, light up a stick of incense or one of your favorite scented candles and sip your favorite herbal tea — or champagne if you’re really in the mood to get into a bubbly spirit.
■ First, here’s how to transform your shower into a steamy sauna: Run it at its hottest temperature for 20 minutes. Spray lavender, vanilla or another relaxing oil onto a washcloth, step into your newly made home sauna, place the cloth over your face and luxuriate in comfort. The steam will open your pores and set free any oil or bacteria that’s been trapped over the holiday rush, opening them to be toned and moisturized.
■ Before you slide into the tub, you can make your toner. Simply pour two cups of boiling water over one cup of rose petals, cover and steep until the sweet-smelling extract cools. If you have a favorite from the drugstore, you can use that instead.
■ It’s face time next: Mix a tablespoon of baking soda into a washing gel or cleanser. Gently apply and savor your new glow.
■ Move on to your teeth by brushing with a crushed strawberry, which is crammed with stain-erasing acids to make your pearly whites gleam so bright that everyone will need shades when they look at you!
■ With your choppers renewed, you’ll want to plump those lips by applying a mixture of vitamin E oil and cinnamon. The fragrant spice irritates the lips and causes blood to rush toward them, giving them a more plush and plump effect. It will last for about six hours and won’t damage your lips. The main ingredient for plumping your lips was in your kitchen the whole time!
