Though Jenna Johnson is on television — she's a pro dancer on Dancing With the Stars — she has some days where she doesn't always feel her best self.
"I had really bad adult acne a couple of years ago, and it was a terrible time for me. I hated going out in public, I hated doing interviews on-camera, I just didn't feel myself or confident in my own skin. Now I am on the other side of it, and I still have little breakouts here and there and skin insecurities, but I feel like I have the tools and the knowledge necessary to know how to take care of it," the dancer, 30, exclusively tells Morning Honey while talking about her partnership with Exuviance and her favorite product exuviance® Performance Peel AP25.
Over the years, the brunette beauty, who shares son Rome with DWTS pro Val Chmerkovskiy, has learned she doesn't always need to paint her face in order to feel good. "I love and adore makeup. It's been part of my life for a very long time, and I love what it can do for you; it can transform you into a character or person. It can help express all of your creativeness inside. I love that, but I'm a firm believer now that it should be to enhance your own natural beauty," she explains. "Now, I love going makeup-free. I love going out with a little eyebrow gel and shiny skin, and that's it. I'm so grateful I'm in a place in my life where I feel comfortable enough to do that, and it really makes me happy. I want other women and men to have that same experience and that confidence in themselves."
Since Johnson wants to empower others, she has no "issue" posting photos of herself completely makeup-free, in sweats, looking "crazy at home."
"I really think it's important for us to see each other like that because that is normal," she insists. "Obviously, I do love to shoot pictures where I'm all glammed up or on a carpet or going on a date night. I think it's important that people get to see both sides of me. I'm not always trying to put on this perfect front because that is not me!"
The mom-of-one has remained true thus far — and that's something she plans to keep doing. "I have remained pretty vulnerable throughout my career, and that's something I value most about my relationship with my fans or followers," she says. "I don't want them to not feel like I'm coming from a genuine place."
Johnson doesn't always want to talk about everything, though, especially when she had a miscarriage a few years back. However, when she told her story, she was happy, as it brought her a lot of peace. "I was contemplating whether to share it or not, and I got to a place in my life where I also had to come to terms with everything, and I was like, 'You know what? I feel like the best way for me to help other women is to speak my truth and share my story.' It was scary to share, but I was overwhelmed with the amount of messages from people who have gone through a similar situation. Those moments mean more to me than any sort of post that gets millions of likes. I'm grateful for those moments."
One of the reasons Johnson is glowing is because she uses her favorite product exuviance® Performance Peel AP25.
"I'm so excited about my partnership with Exuviance. I love this brand so much. I am really, really passionate about partnering with people that I know that have the same standards and values that I do. I'm also so passionate about skincare just because I have gone through my ups and downs with my own skincare insecurities and breakouts, and so this has been a fun way to get the word out there about this awesome brand — but also to tell my story and my journey with skincare," she shares. "The hero product exuviance® Performance Peel AP25 is a glycolic peel that's professional level that you can do at home, and you can do it twice a week. You will love the results that you're about to see when you take this product."
"I started using the products consistently and saw changes and transformations, and I was like, 'I need more of this!' Especially with my line of work and having to wear heavy makeup all the time and sweating throughout the day and at rehearsals, it's been game-changing for my skin — from their lotions to their cleansers, it's been great. They also have a foot balm — Exuviance Exfoliating & Conditioning Foot Balm — which will be amazing throughout this season of Dancing With the Stars. I'm like, 'I'm set for all of my calluses and blisters!'" she adds.
