Jude Law Will Only Return to 'The Holiday' If Nancy Meyers Directs: 'She Is Unique in Her Filmmaking'
Jude Law is open to return for a sequel to The Holiday — under one condition.
The British hunk, 51, starred as the charming widow Graham alongside Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz in the beloved 2006 film.
When asked about possibly doing another installment of the movie, Law said he would only sign on if director Nancy Meyers was on board. "Of course I would," he made clear in a recent interview. "She is unique in her filmmaking. She’s not just the writer-director, but she creates that sort of aesthetic, that world. You see it in her other films."
In the flick, the Gattaca actor's character falls in love with Diaz's Amanda Woods who swaps houses with Winslet's Iris — who then meets and begins a romance with Jack Black's Miles.
"I mean, I’m curious just because they were two very sweet couples, and it would be interesting to drop back in now — how many years later? 20 years? No, maybe 15 — and just see what they’re doing," Law noted. "Would it be at Christmas again? Maybe it would. It’d have to be the holiday season again. You don’t want to see them on holiday in the sun. No."
The Titanic actress, 49, would also be down to reunite with the A-list cast again. "It would be so fun to see Miles and Iris get back together. I kind of imagine, like, how cute would their children be? … Tiny Jack Blacks running around everywhere," Winslet said in a 2022 interview.
Although the romantic comedy may be widely adored now, the acclaimed filmmaker, 74, thought it wasn't a hit when it first premiered. "Criticism stings, and you move on. The Holiday is the perfect example,” Meyers explained in a 2020 interview.
“If anybody in 2006 in December, when that movie came out, told me 14 years later someone’s going to say 'When it’s December, you watch The Holiday' — what can I tell you? Time will tell. The audience is everything," she pointed out.
If the cast does come back together, the Annie star, 52, may want to have a few scenes with other people besides Law.
“The funny thing is that I did a lot of acting on my own, and just with Jude,” Diaz said in a 2020 interview. "Because we only had one scene with Jack and Kate. Our characters never crossed over. Basically, Kate and Jack did their movie; Jude and I did ours. We only had the one scene at the end, where we all came together, and we shot that kind of at the beginning of the [shoot]."
