Karlie Kloss Tries Her Best to Be 'Disciplined' in Maintaining Her Work-Life Balance: 'That’s a Priority'
Karlie Kloss is doing her best to have it all.
The supermodel, 31, has spent years making a name for herself in the fashion industry. However, now that she has two young sons with her husband, Joshua Kushner, she's tried to scale back her professional obligations.
"I can’t tell you the amount of birthdays and weddings and Mother’s Days that I’ve missed because I was jumping on a plane or prioritizing work commitments," the self-proclaimed "workaholic" admitted in a recent interview.
"At this point in my life I realized that I want to work hard, but I also care about balancing all the other things that I need to show up for and the people I need to show up for,” Kloss added.
With the style icon setting that particular goal, she's had to make changes when it comes to her schedule. "Before 9 and after 6, I’m with my family,” she explained. "I try to be disciplined about having the morning and evening with my kids. On Saturday, I’m fully with my family."
"I think there’s different phases of life," Kloss said. “I have such a young family, I’m definitely in a moment where that’s a priority of how I want and need to be spending my time. I know when they’re in school all day my workaholic tendencies will probably kick back into high gear."
After welcoming her second baby in 2023 and her first in 2021, the Project Runway host revealed her life took a complete 180. "Not to be cliché, but everything — in the most beautiful ways," she noted of the ways in which her life changed after starting her family in an interview earlier this year.
“With life as a mother, you don’t lose who you are — you evolve,” Kloss continued. “My fashion career is still a core part of who I am, but I’m also an entrepreneur and I just had a second baby. If something’s got to give, it might be a few extra steps in my skin care routine, but I’m going to make sure that I make time to break a sweat or even just go for a walk and get fresh air."
With such drastic changes, the matriarch has done her best to maintain her well-being. "My self-care routine has definitely gotten more efficient, and maybe a little neglected, but that's OK. I'm enjoying this phase of life, which has made me so much better in a lot of ways," she added. "As a businesswoman, I've become more efficient and I make decisions faster, and I think a lot of working moms can relate to that. It's impossible to even anticipate what is about to happen, but it's the most beautiful changes that force you to grow."
