Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey Are 'Totally Open' to Filming a 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' Sequel
Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey may be getting the band back together!
During a Wednesday, July 17, appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the blonde beauty teased a possible sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
After Andy Cohen asked about a possible new installment of the beloved film, Hudson said producers "are always thinking about that."
"All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script," the Almost Famous star added. "I think we’re both totally open, it has just never happened.”
The Dallas Buyers Club star has also spoken about the possibility of reuniting with Hudson to make a second flick. "I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel,” he said during a 2020 interview on Daily Pop. “As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one. And it lasts. People still love that one. I enjoyed that one quite a bit.”
Earlier in Hudson's chat with Cohen, he asked her if the rumor was true that she had to convince him to wear deodorant whenever they work together. "No! No, he doesn’t wear deodorant," she said with a laugh, "And by the way, I don’t either."
Hudson and McConaughey have loved acting together numerous times over their years in the industry. "We challenged each other, we busted each other's chops and we laughed a lot," the Texas native said about his pal. "And there was a bit of rock and roll exchange that [we thought], 'Oh, this could be some heavyweight fun.' And I think that's why I was cast and that's why, to whatever extent, it worked."
"Those casting, meeting couches, especially for rom-coms are — you want to see the chemistry between the two leads. You want to see how the jive is," he continued. "We're not reading through the script, we're not reading lines."
The feeling was quite mutual for the Nine actress. "I’m such a cheerleader for actors in our industry, but for rom-coms you need that guy to have chemistry with,” Hudson admitted in a Life In Pictures talk at BAFTA in London in 2022. "We just kept hitting our heads against the wall, and the studio and I weren’t agreeing.”
“We had an energy together, I wanted to play with him,” she added. “It felt kinetic. We both have a competitive spirit, we’re both super athletic. We like to push each other and I just love Matthew’s commitment to everything; he’s razor-focused. What you think he is, is is.”
