Kristen Bell Admits She Came Out of 'Retirement' to Work With Adam Brody in New Romantic Comedy Series 'Nobody Wants This'
Kristen Bell was simply dying to work with Adam Brody.
Despite the Veronica Mars alum, 44, being selective about the projects she signs onto after decades in the business, joining forces with The O.C. star, also 44, for the new romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This was a no-brainer.
"It was nothing but lovely," Bell gushed over working with Brody. "I'm such a huge fan of Adam's work. I think creatively, he's so charged and so charismatic. He can make you want to stay with him even if he's a villain on screen."
When the idea of the series came to the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, she knew there was only one person who she wanted to play her love interest. "When I read this, I knew it had to be....on page two, I was like, 'This has to be Brody.' The character of Noah has to be aggressively charismatic where you just can't deny it. It has to be dripping off of them," she added.
When asked about her recent comments about coming out of "retirement" to shoot the show, which centers on an unlikely relationship between an agnostic podcaster and a rabbi, Bell clarified, "It certainly wasn't mapped out in my head. It came across my desk. I connected to it because I hadn't read a rom-com or seen a rom-com that I had any internal feelings about. That's what they're supposed to do. They're supposed to make you laugh, cry and root for love."
During a recent episode of her husband Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, the Gossip Girl actress joked about being at the end of her career and the short break she took from the industry. "I have desire to be creative and leave the house a little more because I have spent the last couple of years being, like, a full-time mum," she explained.
"And although I've enjoyed that, I feel like I've gotten a good foundation here, and I felt like I was losing myself a little bit in it," she added.
Bell emphasized how much she missed the feeling of entertaining people. "I was eager to perform again," the blonde beauty spilled of her hiatus. "And when I stopped performing, I guess a couple of years ago, I was so tired of it. I was tired of the hair and makeup. I was tired of the forward-facing. I was like, 'I just want to be creative behind the scenes.' And then I realized: 'Wait, I wanna do it again. I want to feel that kind of electricity again, of chance and risk.'"
