Exclusive: La La Anthony Reflects on Hollywood Struggles and Her Journey to Success: 'I Never Let the Nos Get to Me'
La La Anthony is embracing an exciting new chapter, as she balances life as a working mom while making moves in her career.
"It's still not an easy journey. For so long, it was, 'Oh yeah, that's La La from MTV.' Everything was from MTV, and I'm like, 'No, I'm really an actor. I went to acting school, I train, I know what I'm doing,'" Anthony exclusively tells Morning Honey while discussing her partnership with Delsym. "It took so long for people to see it and realize it. Still to this day, it can be a struggle, but the work shows itself, and hard work pays off."
Anthony began her career in entertainment as a radio personality and later a video jockey on TRL, but she never gave up on her dreams of being an actress even when it was tough to break through.
"I'm so grateful for the opportunities to showcase my talent and look forward to doing more of that on BMF, The Chi and new projects coming out," the producer admits.
"You just have to keep pushing forward," she stresses. "If I let all those nos get to me, I wouldn't be at this point. Most people doubted if it would happen, but I believed in myself, and that's what it's about."
Currently, Anthony is balancing roles on BMF and The Chi, where her characters' romantic struggles are highlighted.
"I don't think love is something we'll ever figure out," the mom-of-one, who shares son Kiyan Anthony with ex Carmelo Anthony, confesses when discussing the roles. "Markeisha can't figure it out. Dom can't figure it out. La La can't figure it out."
"I don't think it's something you'll ever have all the answers to," she continues. "Every experience teaches you, and you learn from each one, but love is so complicated. You see it in these characters on two shows, in my life, and in people I know. It's just a complicated thing."
Aside from her work, La La is celebrating a milestone in her son's life, as he recently committed to playing basketball at Syracuse University, which is his father's alma mater. The 17-year-old will continue the NBA star's legacy at the institution, which is home to the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center.
"I'm so proud of him, but it's sad as a mom because he's leaving for college soon, and I haven't fully wrapped my mind around it," the brunette beauty shares. "He lives with me, so he's leaving. He was talking about decorating his dorm room and showed me the couch he wants to buy, and I'm just like, 'This is really happening.' I still haven't fully accepted that he's leaving the house soon."
"I'm really proud of him, and the Syracuse announcement was such a big one, and we're just excited to see what this next chapter brings for him," she gushes.
While balancing a full schedule, motherhood and self-care, La La leans on Delysm to stay healthy year-round.
"This is my second year with Delsym, and I'm excited to announce they. are the presenting sponsor for this year's Winter Wonderland event," La La says. "This is my seventh annual event in the Bronx, where we give Christmas to 400 inner-city kids, an amazing and powerful give-back event."
"It's the number one doctor-recommended cough suppressant," she notes of the product. "It's cold and flu season, and nobody wants to get sick or slow down. We need to get ready for the holidays, so it's great to have some on deck."
