Laura Dern Admits She Runs 'Everything' From Her 'Romantic Life' to 'Jobs' Past Close Pal Reese Witherspoon
Laura Dern turns to Reese Witherspoon for advice for pretty much everything.
During a star-filled panel at Hello Sunshine's second Shine Away event in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 5, the Marriage Story alum, 57, gushed over her tight bond with the Legally Blonde actress, 48, and how she always gives her the best words of wisdom.
"So, I felt so lucky to have that lens and then to find sisterhood on this stage — and basically, I run everything by Reese," she explained of the dynamic between herself and Witherspoon, who were also joined by Octavia Spencer. “From my romantic life all the way to what jobs I should do.”
Dern grew up understanding strong female friendships, as her mother, Diane Ladd, always had an army of supporters around her. "What I learned from the four or five women who raised me who were actresses, who then became writers or producers or directors, was that there was no community, there was no inside without each other," the Blue Velvet actress said.
“And that sisterhood drove them,” she continued. “Jane Fonda being one, along with my mother and an amazing group of women who decided they had to be the storytellers to be in the story at all, and they are true pioneers that led us to understand that.”
The Big Little Lies stars have always been ones to praise each other whenever given the opportunity. "You know, you meet people, you’re friends with people, but I say about a few women in my life, they are my sisters. I don’t have a sister, and I found my sister in Laura. No one makes me laugh like Laura. She’s magical," Witherspoon said in a 2020 interview about Dern.
The Jurassic Park actress has continued to commend the businesswoman for all that she does for the people she loves. "Reese is a miracle,” Dern pointed out. "She is the gold standard of what it means to be a champion. She has always been a champion of art and other artists, as well as friends and family."
Witherspoon has been an advocate for women and telling their stories. "It was just really exciting as well, because with Hello Sunshine, a huge amount of what they want to do is put complicated women at the forefront of their stories," the Election star revealed in a 2022 interview.
