Beauty Bakerie is making a name for itself in the cosmetics industry, and it's even being compared to a few high-end items.
Recently, the Black-owned brand has gone viral on TikTok for being a potential dupe for the popular Laura Mercier setting powder. The company makes baking-inspired products at an affordable price point.
In a video made by an Ulta employee, the beauty professional shares a few shopping tips with followers. The influencer recommended the Ulta brand lip oil, L'Oreal Infallible Pressed Powder and the Beauty Bakerie setting powder. The TikToker claimed that the setting powder was better than its luxury competitor: Laura Mercier.
The product takes its packaging design from flour. The shades come in oat, plantain, almond, rice, yellow and brown. It's finely-milled, gluten-free and vegan. It's perfect for "baking" concealer and foundation, which is a popular method for setting liquid products.
Baking makeup is significantly different than a cake. “Baking is a technique that was developed in the earlier years of makeup by artists that used heavier grease and oil-based makeup,” Nick Lujan explained to Ipsy. “It was a necessity to set makeup and prepare the canvas for other powder products like blush, sculpt powders, and bronzers.”
Lujan continued, “Baking is a method of using a shine and oil-absorbing loose powder to set the makeup, but also layered on thick to adjust color and highlight.”
Leaving powder on the face for five to ten minutes locks complexion products in place. Essentially, your own body heat will make the makeup oxidize, and while this process happens, the powder soaks up any excess oil or sebum. Once it's complete, a brush is needed to wipe away the excess. This application is ideal for oily skin types due to it being drying.
