Macaulay Culkin Reveals He Almost Bought the 'Home Alone' House 'Just for Giggles'
Macaulay Culkin nearly lived in the Home Alone house!
The former child star, 44, recently admitted he thought about buying the iconic Winnetka, Ill., home featured in the beloved Christmas films in which he starred in.
During a screening of the movie at the Rosemont Theater earlier this month, Culkin, who played Kevin McCallister in the beloved movie, explained how he pondered putting in an offer when the property went on sale in May for $5.25 million. "I had half a mind to buy it — just for giggles," he revealed.
The My Girl alum expressed how he contemplated turning the estate into a "movie fun house." However, his real-life responsibilities kept him from making the move. "I got kids. I’m busy, man," Culkin noted.
The Uncle Buck actor, who shares sons Dakota, 3, and a 2-year-old whose name hasn’t been revealed, with his fiancée, Brenda Song, has already shown his firstborn the 1990 hit. "I already showed it to him last year, he thinks it's so funny," Culkin admitted in a 2023 interview.
"I convinced my oldest that he's the kid in the movie. I said, 'Remember you had yellow hair? Remember when you were getting the bad guys?' He's like, 'Yeah!' He is such a liar. I'm like, 'You don't remember any of that,'" the proud dad recalled.
In December 2023, Culkin was honored by his on-screen mother Catherine O'Hara at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. "Home Alone was, is, and always will be a beloved global sensation," she said in her speech.
"Yes, he had a most excellent script [by John Hughes] and a wonderful director [Chris Columbus], but it is Macaulay's perfect performance as Kevin McCallister that gave us that little every boy on an extraordinary adventure," the Beetlejuice actress gushed over her movie son during the gathering. "You made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do. It was really like we had ambushed the home of a little boy named Kevin to make a movie, and he just went along with it for the fun of it."
"You have brought that sense of sweet yet twisted yet totally relatable sense of humor to everything that you have chosen to do since Home Alone," O'Hara, 70, raved about Culkin. "Thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once, but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I'm so proud of you."
