Madelyn Cline Admits She Does Her Best to Keep Her Heart 'Open' With 'Childlike Wonder' After Years in Hollywood: 'It’s So Easy to Be Jaded'
Madelyn Cline is keeping a fresh perspective as she continues to dominate Hollywood.
The Outer Banks actress, 26, shot to stardom at an early age, but she hasn't allowed the pressures of being in the industry diminish her optimism about life.
"It’s so easy to be jaded sometimes," she explained in a recent interview. “But I try to actively keep my heart pretty open and have that childlike wonder about things."
A slew of exciting opportunities came Cline's way after the beloved Netflix series Outer Banks launched in 2020. However, the intense attention surrounding her life began to make her feel like it was difficult to live authentically. "[When] I was 24, 25, I was in a big fight with myself. Oh God, I bleached my hair from root to tip. I was just running away from all the emotions that I was feeling…I was also in the midst of discovering who the f--- I was. Especially after the show came out. I had started building this identity when I moved here [Los Angeles], and then all of a sudden, boom, I had this new identity," the blonde beauty revealed.
"I didn’t come into my skin until I was 21. I had to start rethinking a lot of how I felt about myself and the world…It wasn’t until I started to actually love and appreciate myself that [feeling OK with] s--------- came in. It came from confidence and security," she pointed out.
As Morning Honey previously reported, Cline has been candid about how she keeps public opinions about herself at bay by being careful about how much she's on social media.
"So sometimes I have to take a step back and remove myself. It's been an ongoing struggle for me, juggling social media," she explained during a 2022 appearance on the "Ready, Set, Spill" podcast. "I think it's a wonderful tool to connect with everybody, and I love to interact with comments and see what everybody's doing, but it's been hard for me to adjust, because the reality is, it's not real. It's filtered reality."
Despite the internet being a scary place, Cline noted she's trying to be present with her fans. "At the same time, it is so exciting because I do get to meet people. When I was in Paris for Fashion Week, I met the most lovely teenage girls who were fans of the show, and, like, never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be over [there]," she said. "It's very sweet. So there's a duality."
