Miranda Cosgrove Says She Hasn't 'Completely Broken Out of Playing Carly' From 'iCarly'
Miranda Cosgrove is likely most known for playing Carly Shay in iCarly — which aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012 and then got rebooted on Paramount+ for three seasons — but she's trying to start a new chapter.
“In some ways, I haven’t really completely broken out of playing [Carly],” she told Bustle in a new interview. “A lot of people think that that’s exactly what I’m like.”
“Now that I’m older, I don’t mind as much,” she continued. “But there’s still a little part of me that’s like, It’d be nice if people could see me in a different light. I like my little bubble and my life, so I’m torn a lot because I’m like, how much should I put out there on social media? How much should I really want people to know about me? Maybe it’s nice that I just have one thing people think of me [for], and at least it’s a nice thing, and then I can live my life on the inside.”
Though the star, 30, has been in showbiz for a long time, she's grateful she's been able to stay humble.
“It hasn’t been too crazy for me being in the entertainment business since I was little, because I haven’t had any crazy scandals,” she noted. “I’m sure that would be really hard to handle, especially as a kid, having people say bad things about you or judge decisions you made. That probably would’ve made it harder for me to stay sane.”
Cosgrove is appearing in Mother of the Bride, which is now streaming on Netflix, and she hopes to do more upbeat films going forward.
"It’s my favorite genre of movie,” she said.
Additionally, while speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actress hopes to end iCarly on a high note after it was canceled by the streamer.
"I had a great experience getting to come back and do it for a few seasons, for sure," Cosgrove said. "But I'd love to still be able to wrap up the story in some way."
"Maybe, hopefully, someday, we'll still do it," Cosgrove continued. "I feel like it would probably be more along the lines of maybe a movie, that would kind of wrap it all up or something like that. So that's what I'm hoping for."
