Miranda Cosgrove Reveals How She Wants to Officially End 'iCarly' After Canceled Reboot: 'We'll Still Do It'
Miranda Cosgrove doesn't think she's done playing Carly Shay.
Despite the iCarly reboot being canceled after three seasons, the former child star, 31, revealed she wants to return to the Nickelodeon series for a proper send-off.
"I had a great experience getting to come back and do it for a few seasons, for sure," Cosgrove explained in a recent interview of the short-lived revival. "But I'd love to still be able to wrap up the story in some way."
"Maybe, hopefully, someday, we'll still do it," the School of Rock actress noted. "I feel like it would probably be more along the lines of maybe a movie, that would kind of wrap it all up or something like that. So that's what I'm hoping for. I want to know who Carly's mother is as much as [fans do]. It seems like a lot of people were hoping to see that."
As much success as the teen series brought to her life, Cosgrove admitted the role she's most known for has held her back at times. "In some ways, I haven’t really completely broken out of playing [Carly],” she explained in an interview earlier this year. "A lot of people think that that’s exactly what I’m like."
“Now that I’m older, I don’t mind as much,” she continued. “But there’s still a little part of me that’s like, It’d be nice if people could see me in a different light. I like my little bubble and my life, so I’m torn a lot because I’m like, how much should I put out there on social media? How much should I really want people to know about me? Maybe it’s nice that I just have one thing people think of me [for], and at least it’s a nice thing, and then I can live my life on the inside.”
Despite being one of Hollywood's hottest stars at such a young age, Cosgrove has remained grounded in her life. “It hasn’t been too crazy for me being in the entertainment business since I was little, because I haven’t had any crazy scandals,” the Drake & Josh alum spilled.
"I’m sure that would be really hard to handle, especially as a kid, having people say bad things about you or judge decisions you made. That probably would’ve made it harder for me to stay sane," she added.
These days, Cosgrove is focused on empowering young women. "I know what it feels like to be young and to feel scared to speak up, or like you can’t make a huge difference on your own," she said in a 2021 interview. "Maybe you just don't feel super confident in your ideas, cause nobody's ever told you that your ideas were great."
