New York City is a living, breathing entity, and no one captures its pulse quite like Cherie Corso. A talented New Yorker artist and Reiki master, Corso has long been connected to the energy that flows through the city’s streets, buildings, and people. Now, through her newest project, “Pulse of New York,” she is bringing that vibrant energy to life in a way that invites everyone to leave their mark on the city’s artistic legacy.
A Love Letter to New York
Corso's connection to New York is deeply personal. "I’ve always had a love for this city and wanted to create something that reflects the vibrant energy that makes New York so unique," she explained. This project, a powerful blend of art and community, allows Corso to showcase the diversity, spirit and heartbeat of New York's five boroughs. For the “Pulse of New York” project, Corso is creating one abstract 5 x 5 painting for each borough, starting with the ever-dynamic Manhattan.
The Canvas of the City
What makes this project truly extraordinary is how it involves everyday New Yorkers. Corso places the canvas directly on the streets, allowing pedestrians to walk on it. Their footsteps, scuffs, and markings are captured in every step, providing a raw, authentic reflection of the city's pulse. "By letting people walk on the canvas, I'm allowing them to leave their energy and story behind," Corso said. "It’s a collaboration between the city’s residents and myself, capturing the moment-to-moment vibrancy of each borough."
The enthusiasm surrounding this project has been palpable. Crowds gather in anticipation, eager to be part of something bigger than themselves. "People are lining up to participate," Corso noted. "It’s amazing to see how excited they are to leave their mark and contribute to this evolving piece of art." Each canvas, imprinted with the footsteps of New Yorkers from all walks of life, becomes a living testament to the diversity and unity that defines the city.

Transforming Footsteps Into Art
Once the street interactions are complete, Corso takes the canvases back to her studio, where the real magic begins. There, she transforms the raw imprints into abstract works of art, each one a unique visual representation of the energy she felt in that borough. "The energy and diversity of each neighborhood will be reflected in the artwork," she explained. "Each painting will have its own personality, just like the boroughs themselves."
Manhattan, with its fast-paced hustle and towering skyscrapers, will be the first to be immortalized. Following that, Corso will continue the journey across the remaining boroughs — Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — capturing the essence of New York in all its forms.
A Citywide Celebration
This project is more than just art—it’s a celebration of New York’s people, diversity, and creative energy. As Corso completes each painting, she plans to unveil the works to the public, showcasing the powerful connection between the city's residents and the art they help create.
