Rashida Jones knows the trials and tribulations of being a nepo-baby as the daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton.

"I had parents who were in the public eye, but they were extremely protective of us. [Fame] wasn't that much a part of my reality," she explained before adding she felt notoriety is "pretty poisonous for the most part."

Despite Rashida being fully aware of how lucky she is, she made it clear she was never forced to break out into the industry. "People like the story of a legacy family and it's fun to write about and it's fun to think about you know, the ‘mini me’ and the person who looks like their mom or their dad. And then there's the resentment there too. But I think about it as, historically, people go into the family business more than they don't," she added.

Rashida Jones said her parents were 'very protective' of her privacy.

"My dad said to me, when I graduated from college: ‘You're going to go wait in line with 70,000 other people for a job? That doesn't seem really that practical,'" the funny lady remembered. "And he was right, you know."

Jones has most definitely made a name for herself outside of her parents' shadow after graduating from Harvard in 1997 and going on to have a successful acting career long past her adolescence. "I wasn't really in a place where people recognize me until I was in my 30s, which is a good thing, but it was also like a bit of a surprise," The Office alum noted.

Rashida Jones graduated from Harvard and went on to find success in 'Parks and Recreation.'

"By that point, you're like, This is how I'm living my life. And then, all of a sudden, you're walking in New York, and you're used to just walking on the streets, and then somebody's watching you," Rashida continued.

It hasn't only been her family that has shaped who the brunette beauty has become. "In my own life, my female friendships are incredibly anchoring for me," she revealed. "They orient my life in every single way … I was talking about this with a girlfriend the other day: We’re adults now and we can work out all of this stuff with each other."

Rashida Jones credits her female friendships for anchoring her life.

"And even if we come into conflict, or we have issues, we can deal with it head-on because we love each other and it's safe and we know that we're going to care for each other's feelings," she gushed over her close inner circle.
