Ray Romano Admits He's 'Baffled' Over Daughter Ally's Drive: 'Everything Had to Be an A'
Ray Romano is a very proud father.
The Everybody Loves Raymond actor, 66 — who shares sons Matthew, Gregory and Joseph with his wife, Anna Romano — is blown away by his daughter, Ally Romano, and what she's accomplished.
"I sometimes am baffled at where her drive came from,” Ray explained in a recent interview about the University of Southern California grad, 34, who now is a Senior Director at a public relations agency.
"Everything had to be an A… an A-plus,” the funny man noted. "You took all those traits from us, and you didn’t leave any for the boys."
While his daughter excelled in the classroom, Ray's journey was much different. "I’m driven, too, but I was driven by something I found a passion for,” he pointed out. “But I was horrible in school and did the minimum possible."
Ally has equally glowing thoughts about the patriarch and recently worked with him on the film Somewhere in Queens. "In March of 2020, I was moving from LA to NY to work on a project with this dude," she wrote in an Instagram post alongside a picture of herself with her dad.
"Flash forward to February ‘21, after many delays and a few emotional rollercoasters, Somewhere in Queens began pre-production in NYC. And during this time, my dad and I lived with each other, worked with each other and I was his chauffeur (chef, part-time assistant, laundromat, etc.) Last summer it premiered at Tribeca Film Festival (where we took this adorable little photos) and just about a week ago, Somewhere in Queens was released in theaters!" the famous offspring continued.
"So much heart, many years, and several anxiety attacks later, we did it! And I couldn’t be more proud and grateful to have had this experience," Ally said of collaborating with her dad.
Over the span of his career, the stand-up star has used his family life as inspiration for his comedy routines. "I do know that a lot of my material now is me taking on the voice of either my kids or my wife," Ray said during a 2021 appearance on the "Good One: A Podcast About Jokes" podcast.
"Now that they’re people, I’m just engaging with them more, and they actually have a point of view and a thing and a comment they want to say, and we can have a conversation," he continued. "It’s just natural for me to write about that and to play their part. ... I have more to act out now.”
