Rebel Wilson Admits Confronting Her Emotions Was a Big Part of Her Health and Weight-Loss Journey
Rebel Wilson revealed how she managed to lose a lot of weight.
The Pitch Perfect star, 44, recently got candid about her health journey and what it took for her to finally undergo a complete body transformation.
"There’s no magic fix. I’d been on diets [and] I’ve been really good [about] exercising pretty much my entire life," Wilson revealed in a recent interview. "For me, it was the emotional element that I’d never looked at. I’d kind of been, like, ‘Emotions … Ugh, I don’t want to talk about things.’”
"It’s good to value yourself and be healthy, [but] you don’t have to be obsessive," The Hustle star, who shed 80 pounds, emphasized.
Another major factor in changing her life was Wilson's desire to become a mother after consulting a fertility doctor. "He was like, ‘Well, you’d have a much better chance of having a child if you were healthy,'" she added. "It kind of really hit a nerve, that [it] could prevent me from having a child."
In 2022, the Bridesmaids alum and her fiancée Ramona Agruma welcomed their daughter via surrogate.
"I am just so proud of my life and all the things that I’ve gone through," Wilson explained. "I’m just at a point now where I can be really open. It’s kind of cathartic in a way to just put it all out there. And then now, I move on with the next chapters."
The Australia native previously admitted she briefly tried the weight-loss medication Ozempic before deciding it wasn't for her. "Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good," she revealed in a separate interview.
It was also difficult for people in the A-lister's life to deal with her transformation. "Basically no one apart from my mom wanted me to lose weight,” Wilson continued about people in her inner circle. "People thought I’d lose my pigeonhole in my career, playing the fat funny character, and they wanted me to continue in that. I feel strongly that young women shouldn’t try to obsess over looking like Victoria’s Secret models — they should just look like themselves. I know that my relationship with food is complicated.”
Despite putting in the work, Wilson has continued to be vulnerable about trying to keep the weight off. "Working really hard has meant that, coz of all the stress, I've gained 14 kg's (30 pounds)!" the funny lady revealed on Instagram.
"It makes me feel bad about myself…it shouldn't…but it does. I'm really proud of the work I've been doing on new movies and my memoir, it's just been a LOT and I've lost focus on my healthy lifestyle. Anyone else going through the same thing?" she asked her followers.
