Renée Elise Goldsberry constantly counts her lucky stars for having such a fulfilling career in showbiz.
"I love that Broadway always welcomes a diverse group of people to the stage. I think we benefit when we have new voices and new talent," the star, 53, exclusively told Morning Honey while discussing her involvement with Wells Fargo and Breaking Ground to distribute food and holiday gifts to formerly homeless residents at Brooklyn’s 90 Sands, the second largest supportive housing development in the country. "Broadway is the perfect platform for so many different voices, and I'm glad to be a part of that."
After wrapping up Season 3 of Girls5eva, the actress, who shares two kids Benjamin Johnson and Brielle with husband Alexis Johnson, got the opportunity to be back on stage again after leaving Hamilton in 2016.
"Oh, it's been really fast and furious. This is a really unique show," she said of All In: Comedy About Love, which debuted on December 16. "We're reading wonderful stories of love that were published in the New Yorker, so I'm actually not singing at all! I'm just sitting on stage telling these wonderful stories that have all these surprising turns. They're hilarious and emotional, and there's some wonderful music in it. It feels good to be back. It was a good old-fashioned Broadway opening, and it felt really special."
Fortunately for the mom-of-two, she gets to dabble in many things, as she gets to act in TV and movies, in addition to appearing in front of a live audience. "I've been thanking Girls5eva for being able to have this new community of actors around me," she said of the Netflix show, which was unfortunately canceled after three seasons on December 17. "These people are comedians, and the best in the business! They're really, really smart and quick. Their brains are always writing and making hilarious bits. They are geniuses!"
As for what the future holds, the brunette beauty has a long list of things she'd like to achieve. "I'd love to come back to Broadway and do a longer run of a show. I'd love to continue working with the people that I get to work with now. I have an album coming out at the top of next year, and I'd like to keep me profile high enough that when wonderful organizations are doing good in the community and doing things that are not self-serving, they think of me! That's my goal. But so far, I'm very happy," she gushed.
Additionally, the Hamilton alum is surrounded by such a solid group of loved ones. "I have really good friends. I have a very strong, supportive husband. We just had our 22nd wedding anniversary. I have two children that have been around me long enough to know how this works and to be grateful for our lives. I have wonderful examples in the industry of people that makes impossible things happen. I'm constantly looking around at my friends and just amazed at the huge swings they take and what they pull off. It inspires me to keep going," she added.
Though it sounds like Goldsberry doesn't have that much downtime, she makes sure to give back and do good at any opportunity, which is why teaming up with Wells Fargo, The Bank of Doing, was a no-brainer. The singer joined Wells Fargo volunteers in distributing food and holiday gifts to formerly homeless New Yorkers as part of Wells Fargo’s broader commitment to address housing access and affordability.
"I'm thrilled to join Wells Fargo. I've been out here at a pop-up food pantry in Brooklyn at 90 Sands, the second largest supportive housing development in the country. We are giving out 1,000 bags of groceries and holiday gifts. They're really, really good gifts — my children would want them!" she quipped. "We're loading up these beautiful people, and we're all really happy to be here. It's a wonderful thing to be doing, and I'm glad to be part of it."
Goldberry is all about teaching her kids about being kind to others. "I have the opportunity to work alongside an organization that has been behind doing more than talking. They call themselves The Bank of Doing, but what's lovely is that they're doing good in ways that are really impactful," she shared. "I'm excited because this holiday season is about more than receiving, and when my children see me taking time outside of the chaos to be part of this, it encourages them to do the same in their own lives. I'm glad to be partnering with an organization that really sees this responsibility as bigger than one season."
