Exclusive: 'RHOBH' Star Sutton Stracke Reveals How She's Helping 'Educate' People About the Importance of Sustainability in Fashion
Sutton Stracke is encouraging her fellow fashionistas to go green.
While The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star made a name for herself as one of the most beloved personalities on Bravo, she's also been advocating for sustainable practices in the clothing industry by leading by example with her company, Sutton Brands.
Stracke chats exclusively with Morning Honey about her passion for circular fashion, the positive changes she's seen in the years she's been involved with the cause and her upcoming event in New York City, where she will highlight other female changemakers.
After launching the company in 2023, the boutique owner holds a yearly gathering to spread awareness of the importance of being environmentally conscious when shopping. "The word annual is a kind of enigmatic thing, but this is actually now annual," she explains of the achievement. "Three years has longevity to it, so we're really excited."
As for the strides she's sees in the industry to go green, she says, "Education is the biggest part."
"When we first started this, that was the biggest barrier," Stracke adds. "Figuring out how we can educate everyone on this and being able to talk about it in an understandable way was the main hurdle. I've seen people understand what we're doing. I think that when you look at other brands, they're starting to put more focus on sustainability. It's wild that it's finally starting."
"My daughter, who is about to be 23 in May, was one of the people I was looking at when we started this," the reality star explains. "That generation is the fast fashion generation, so to watch her growth in this process and her understanding of what I'm doing has been a push for me. You are starting to change it, even if it's one person at a time."
"She understands not to buy into fast fashion. It's a huge problem and a major pollutant to the earth," she emphasizes.
During the upcoming Pioneers of Circular Fashion event, Stracke will feature CEO and founder of Circular Service Group Rachel Kibbe, founder of The Circularity Project Indré Maria Rockefeller and founder of Let's Talk Supply Chain Sarah Barnes to make people more aware of what they can do to make a difference.
"We're celebrating these women that have carved space for circular fashion and the idea of sustainability," the blonde beauty says. "I've really gotten to know these ladies. Rachel is such a leader, especially in Washington, D.C.. It's interesting to watch that happen. Right now, with our change in presidency, she will have a lot of work to do. Supporting her and letting people know what she does is probably the best thing we can do."
"It's such a small niche of what we talk about, but the more people know, the better," Stracke notes.
