Savannah Guthrie Reveals How Her Deep Sense of Faith Gets Her Through Tough Times
Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is one of the most successful women in television — and the Emmy Award-winning journalist said she owes it all to God’s grace.
"God has a plan for us all,” explained 52-year-old Guthrie. The married mom of two — who has daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, 7 — said she’s had a strong belief in the Lord’s powers since she was 16 years old and lost her beloved dad, Charlie Guthrie, to a sudden heart attack. It was her faith that got her through the terrible grief.
“I wish he was 80-something now and bouncing my kids on his knee, but he isn’t, and I trust God always has a plan,” she noted. “I know that whatever happens, God is working it out for good.”
Guthrie's beliefs are so strong, she’s wrote a new book called Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.
“I strongly believe that God yearns to engage with us, that He is there with open arms,” she said, adding that her father’s death changed her entire life.
"I don't know that I would have chosen this career. I don’t know if I would have left home. I might’ve stayed in my hometown. I don't know what I would have done, but I know fundamentally it changed everything. And some things it changed for the better, in the sense of, I know that my heart is more tender because of it,” she explained.
Now, she’s at the top of her game and a star who appears in millions of viewers’ homes each morning. Guthrie added, "I feel so much gratitude."
