The actor loves to travel with his family.

"They're now teenagers and they like to travel, but they have their phones, which is hard to get a real adventure going. I traveled recently with my daughter. It was her spring break, so I took one of them to a place and my wife took the other. We had an absolute ball. We went to Chicago, but it was so fun! I am having conversations with them at this age that we wouldn't have talked about otherwise," the Modern Family star, 57, exclusively tells Morning Honey while discussing his exciting new ad campaign with Chase and United Airlines.

The star shares two daughters with his wife, Holly Burrell.

"This trip I just took with my daughter, she made all the choices," he shares. "She takes the lead. She picked the stuff, and I had a great time! Outside of the hotel, we have a no phone rule. We like to not have them in the car. We want them to keep their heads up."

The actor said most of his trips revolve around food.

When the pair, who got married in 2000, are on the road, they tend to find the good meals. "Our entire trip is about food," he quips. "We're also active. We like to hike and bike — but only if it doesn't get in the way of the food. We map out almost every lunch and dinner to the point where it takes away from the spontaneity of the trip. You start to piece together the street food is unbelievable and this restaurant is incredible and that thing we have to try — little by little, all the meals get occupied."

Though the actor, who lived in Italy when he was young, has traveled a lot the world, he will always have a "soft spot" for that area. "I've probably been back seven or eight times since I lived there. I've brainwashed my family into thinking it's the greatest place on earth. It's up there," he says of his favorite place. "We try to hit different parts of the country, but I just keep going back to Italy!"

The dad-of-two already has his next trip planned. "We travel a lot with another family, so we have to talk things out in advance," he shares. "I think we're going to go to Madagascar or South Africa the summer after this one. New Zealand is also on my bucket list."

Ty Burrell appears in a new commercial about travel and credit cards.

Since the Finding Dory star enjoys exploring the world, it made perfect sense for him to team up with Chase and United Airlines. The two companies revealed the brand-new United Family of Cards from Chase, with "new and enhanced benefits designed to make flying the world’s largest airline even more rewarding, valuable and personalized. United Cards have always provided United MileagePlus members with ways to earn on travel and every day spend and redeem miles, but now, each card offers a distinct set of additional benefits tailored to meet the needs of a variety of travel styles," the press release reads.

"I've flown United for a long time, and when I was approached about it, it felt like an organic fit for my family. The cards are intended to make travel simpler and easier and more fun, so it felt like a no-brainer in that way," Ty says. "The campaign felt sort of in the same spirit: just lighthearted. I hope people like them! I'm happy with how they turned out. The message is: if you fly United, you should probably have one of these cards because they'll make everything just better."

"I will forever have imposter syndrome," he says of being tapped to work with the two companies. "I'm also a Chase customer, so this was so perfect! Also, seeing the copy for the campaign was good. We had a good time making them. It was a fun thing to get involved with! I live in Utah now, so I try to only take work that takes me away for a very short amount of time. Commercials are awesome in that way. It was a week of prep and then shooting, it's pretty great. I hope the ads are beneficial to people!"
